Real sport celebrates good sport at Wiley Elementary

Wiley Elementary third grader Dominic Calandrino has just started his football career, but he already has one important award under his belt.

Calandrino earned the "Off the Field Award" from the Sterling Heights Football League for his overall good sportsmanship and off the field character.

The Award, presented by Commissioner Dan Wesner, was accompanied by a visit from Carl Davis, a former Stevenson graduate and current University of Iowa football standout.

Davis spoke to the students about the importance of family and education, and answered questions about life as a college-athlete.

"We plan on keeping in touch with Carl and we look forward to continued communication with our new friend," said teacher Edward Fromm.
