UCS student gets a head start on college scholarships
A Utica Community Schools high school student has a head start on earning college scholarships.
Joseph McNeil, who attends Utica High School and the Utica Center for Mathematics, Science and Technology, earned a scholarship to Lawrence Technological University worth up to $8,000 during his junior year.
McNeil earned the university's 2013 Award for Excellence in Science and Mathematics for his overall academic performance.
"Accomplishments in science and mathematics have long been at the forefront of our nation's achievements and our enviable record of success in solving the problems that confront our society and fellow citizens," said, Jane Rohrback, Director of Admissions for Lawrence Tech in the award letter. "Science and Mathematics form the foundation of many of today's professional careers."
McNeil's award was among $17.4 million in academic scholarships earned by UCS students in 2013 to universities throughout the country.
