UCS student journalists earn more than 150 state honors

Utica Community Schools student publications earned more than 150 top state honors for excellence in writing, photography and design.

Yearbook and newspaper staffs from Utica, Stevenson and Eisenhower high schools competed at the state competition in Lansing last month.

All three yearbook staffs earned Spartan awards from the Michigan Interscholastic Press Association, ranking them as top publications in the State of Michigan.

After judging over 3,000 newspaper entries, along with over 2,000 yearbook entries, Utica High students earned 67 individual awards in their division, while Eisenhower students earned 55 and Stevenson students earned 34 in their division.

Additionally, Eisenhower’s yearbook editor-in-chief Lindsay Moore was named the 2013 All-MIPA Yearbook Student, while Utica High’s newspaper’s editor-in-chief, senior Kirsten Domsic, was named to the 2013 Student Journalist All-State Staff.
