Cassie Hines Cancer Foundation Competes with Local Charities For Cash Boost

Cassie Hines Shoe Cancer Foundation is asking the community to vote for them in an online competition to raise cash.

With less than one year under its belt, the Cassie Hines Shoes Cancer Foundation is on a roll, raising cash and spreading it's message.

The foundation was formed in honor of Eisenhower graduate, who lost her battle with tubulocystic renal cell carcinoma, a rare form of cancer. She died March 1, 2012 at the age of 21.

was formed to encourage young adults’ diagnosed with cancer, whether in treatment or finished, to engage in various forms of social support available to them.  Most young adult cancer patients say they feel alone, scared and freighted by their future.  After they participate in peer interaction, especially young adult cancer camps they feel like they are back in charge of their own life, according to charity organizers.

Last week the foundation held it's first annualt at Stony Creek.

This week, the foundation is asking the public to vote for the Cassie Hines Shoe Cancer Foundation in the Suburban Collection's Great Charity Giveaway.

The auto dealership is giving away $40,000 to the ten local charities that receive the most online votes. First round voting began Aug. 15. The charities will be whittled down to the top 10 on Aug. 24. All top ten charities will walk away with money. The final winners will be announced Aug. 31.
