Shelby Firefighter Is Top Fund Raiser at Annual Fight For Air Climb Race

Several members of the Shelby Township Fire Department raced up the Detroit Renaissance Center to raise money for the American Lung Association.

A group of Shelby Township Firefighters raced to the top of Michigan’s tallest building Sunday to raise more than $4,000 for the American Lung Association.

The team, comprised of eight firefighters, participated in a series of races, and challenges at the Detroit Renaissance Center, including a competitive stair climb wearing full gear up 70 floors, or 1,085 stairs.

Of the more than 1,200 climbers who participated in the race and more than 20 fire departments, Shelby Township Firefighter Mike Cantenaro was the number one individual fundraiser, submitting $2,640. As a team, the Shelby Fire Department raised $4,420 and came in sixth place for overall amount of funds raised.

The sixth annual Fight For Air Climb was a success, breaking the goal of $175,000 and raising $180,050 for the American Lung Association.
