Utica Fire Department Open House, Chili Cookoff and More

1. Utica Fire Department Open House

  • When: Sunday, Oct. 6, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Where: Utica Fire Department (7609 Auburn Rd., Utica)
  • What: It's fire prevention week and the Utica Fire Department is kicking it off with an open house. See demonstrations using fire equipment, attend safety education seminars, and take home fire prevention materials to keep your loved ones safe. Kids will take home a free fire helmet, and hot dogs, chips and drinks will be provided. Everyone is welcome to attend.

2. Bark-A-Bout's Annual Fall Festival

  • When: Sunday, Oct. 6, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Where: 14660 23 Mile Rd., Shelby Township
  • What: Experience Sugar Bush Farm’s petting farm, demonstrations from Macomb County’s K9 Unit, caricature paintings by Goofy Faces Caricature artists, carnival style yet traditional harvest games, on-site crafts and activities for the kids including pumpkin paintings, and a bounce house. There will also be food vendors and products for purchase for you and your four-legged friends.

3. Third Annual Chili Cookoff

  • When: Saturday, Oct. 5, 12 noon to 4 p.m.
  • Where: New Hope Christian Church (52226 Van Dyke Ave., Shelby Township)
  • What: Come sample several chilis and vote for your favorite. You can also buy a bowl and take some home. Cornbread and dessert will be available.
