Looking to head out on Lake St. Clair, or neighboring waterways, to fish this weekend? Here are some highlights of what is biting.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has released the weekly fishing report for area waters. According to a release, this Saturday, May 25, is the opening day of bass season on the Great Lakes and all inland waters except Lake St. Clair, St. Clair River and the Detroit River. Bass season does not open until the third Saturday in June. The agency reports that the "early catch and release season has been excellent so the opener should be as well." May is National Bike Month in which the public is encouraged to keep cyclists' safety in mind.
With warm weather upon us, Macomb County drivers are encouraged to keep biker safety in mind. May is National Bike Month and this week is Bike to Work Week. Although the county claims paths for cyclists and runners, including the extensive Macomb Orchard Trail, bikers' rights are also crucial alongside roads. The coaches represent schools from across the county, including those in Shelby Township and Utica.
The Macomb County Coaches Hall of Fame added 14 members Thursday night during a ceremony in Sterling Heights. Coaches from schools in Shelby Township and Utica were among those honored, according to The Macomb Daily. They are: Edmond Carleton (Cousino); Joyce Christmann (L’Anse Creuse); Bob Giles (Mount Clemens); Bobby Hill (Stevenson); Matt Joseph (Utica Ford, East Detroit); Bob Lefkowitz (L’Anse Creuse); Ann Marie Michol (De La Salle, Regina); Joe Michol (De La Salle, Utica); Jim Plutschuck (Utica, Roseville Sacred Heart); Brad Robinson (Warren Woods-Tower, Fraser); Steve Vercammen (Roseville, De La Salle) and Michael Giannone (Dakota). Golfers can now take to the links of Lake St. Clair Metropark golf course, weather permitting.
The par-3 golf course at Lake St. Clair Metropark is now open for play, weather permitting. The course, which also features a putting green, is open for play from 8 a.m. until dusk. Rates are $6 for weekdays, $7 for weekends and holidays. Seniors, 62 and over, and juniors, 20 and under, is $5 Monday through Friday, holidays not included.
