Real Detroit Weekly Finds Best Bars, BBQ, Arcade in Shelby Township, Utica

Shelby Pigs Out At Bad Brad's Newest BBQ

Customers embrace restaurant's saucy cuisine.

The smokey BBQ scent you may have noticed while driving on 23 Mile Road near Van Dyke and Mound lately isn't your imagination. It's likely the sweet and savory aroma emulating from Bad Brad's BBQ restaurant, opened June 11 on the former Hoops Sports and Spirits. The new BBQ spot is the second Bad Brad's location; the first is in New Baltimore. "It's been extremely busy, and very well-received," co-owner Mike Pollard said Tuesday. "You know, if you have great food and great service, people will show up and that's exactly what happened."  The menu features everything from smoked brisket, pulled pork, ribs, and more. Bad Brad's BBQ Brings Heat to Shelby

The New Baltimore restaurant plans to open its second location in late January.

A popular New Baltimore restaurant is cooking up plans to open a second location in Shelby Township. Bad Brad's BBQ will move to the property of former Hoops Sports and Spirits on 23 Mile between Mound and Van Dyke. The business' second restaurant is slated to open in late January once extensive renovations are complete. Tearing down about 90 percent of the structure will pave way for Bad Brad's to create a rustic yet refined atmosphere from scratch, co-owner Mike Pollard said Thursday. Pollard passed the building during a drive and immediately envisioned it as a Bad Brad's. “It’s been in negotiation for about eight months; we finally got our hands on it in July of this year," Pollard said.
