The Michigan State Police have launched an investigation into a campaign flier that was sent out during the primary election campaign season listing a false address to a campaign group.
Although the Aug. 7 primary elections in Shelby Township are behind us, the Michigan State Police still want to know who sent out a possibly illegal mailing during the campaign. The Michigan State Police and the United States Postal Service have launched an investigation into a particular campaign flier that they say lists a false return address for a political action group. The campaign flier targets Shelby Township Supervisor Rick Stathakis. It claims that Stathakis has been spending more time at his private insurance company, where he is a senior partner, than at the township city hall. The mailer states "Where's Rick Stathakis Really At," and lists his private business, Allied Risk Services, LLC's, address on Van Dyke in Warren. The …

Shelby Township Supervisor Rick Stathakis calls candidates lawsuits "frivolous."
Two candidates running for political office in Shelby Township are currently embattled in lawsuits with the township. Shelby Township Supervisor Rick Stathakis told Patch.com that he believes the filings are nothing more than political tactics. Last week, Nick Nightingale, who is currently running for the Shelby Township Board of Trustees in the November elections, filed a lawsuit against the township and the five individual board members who voted in favor of canceling the Nightingale Service’s Towing contract with the township in 2011. The lawsuit alleges the board of trustees deliberately retaliated against the family business because the owners, Nick and his father John Nightingale, actively participated in recall efforts against …

Nick and John Nightingale, owners of Nightingale Services, are suing Shelby Township and five board members, alleging their contract was canceled in retaliation for speaking out against the board.
The owner and operators of Nightingale Services Inc., Shelby Township’s former towing contractor, have filed a federal lawsuit against the township, and five Board of Trustees individually, claiming their contract was cancelled as punishment for the business owners spearheading recall efforts against several township officials. After more than 50 years of working with the township, a 5-2 vote by the Board of Trustees in December 2011 terminated the Nightingale's contract based on allegations of contract violations and overcharges. A detailed report, conducted by an independent contractor hired by the township, was presented during a public meeting, and a vote was immediately taken. Several months later, Nick Nightingale announced he was …

While campaigning door-to-door Monday afternoon for the position of Shelby Township Supervisor, former township police chief Bob Leman stumbled upon an unconscious elderly woman, and was able to revive her and call for help. Just before 5 p.m. Tuesday, Leman was walking from home-to-home on Lakeside Street, which is near 24 and Dequindre roads. Leman said he was looking down at his clipboard to make sure he had the right address as he approached a home. "As I came up to the porch and at the corner of my eye, I saw what I thought was a large rock. As I got closer, I realized it was a person who was in fetal position and unconscious," said Leman. While Leman waited for 911 to arrive, he said he was able to get the woman to respond and sit up…

Former Shelby Township Police and Fire Civil Service Commission announces candidacy for Supervisor's race.
The elections for the Shelby Township Supervisor's position has widened with Dave Erickson's announcement to run for office. Erickson, along with former Shelby Township Police Chief Bob Leman, are the only two candidates to publicly announce their plans to run for the supervisor's position in the November elections. Current Shelby Township Supervisor Rick Stathakis has not said whether he will run for a second term. Erickson will run as an independent. Therefore, his name will not appear on the Aug. 7 primary ballot. "I will be on the November ballot as 'no party affiliation,'" Erickson told Patch. "I’m not a Republican or Democrat. I guess I am just an American. I don’t have an allegiance to any company, party etc. I just want to serve …

So did any of the crack reporters around here actually investigate any of the claims on that mailer? Thats the real story but it appears nobody had the integrity to actually investigate. If someone sent out a mailer exposing my corruption you can bet Id be the first one screaming foul, pointing fingers and hoping nobody would actually investigate the accusations.   more ›
