“The decision by the TSA to change security rules to allow knives onboard aircraft is just wrong," said Shelby Township and Utica U.S. Rep. Candice Miller.
Planning a summer vacation? Feel free to pack your golf clubs, pool cues and Swiss army knives in your carry-on luggage. As of April 25, these items and several others once banned from aircraft cabins will be allowed. Transportation Security Administration head John Pistole announced Tuesday that small pocketknives and sporting equipment banned after the Sept. 11, 2011 terrorist attacks would once again be allowed in U.S. planes, according to CNN. However, the announcement was not met with support on all fronts. Citing continued safety concerns, U.S. Rep. Candice Miller, who represents Shelby Township and Utica in Michigan's 10th congressional district, shared her opposition to the TSA's decision in a statement Thursday. “The decision by …

Shelby Township and Utica Rep. Candice Miller called Parks "a pillar of strength for the civil rights movement" whose statue now takes its rightful place among America's greatest citizens in Statuary Hall.
Michigan legislators were among members of Congress and President Barack Obama Wednesday to witness the unveiling of a statue of Rosa Parks at the U.S. Capitol. The monument to the civil rights pioneer now sits in Statuary Hall in Washington, D.C., which Congresswoman Candice Miller views as "its rightful place among Presidents and other historic figures." "Rosa Parks was a pillar of strength for the civil rights movement and courageously met injustice head-on," said Miller, who serves Shelby Township and Utica in Michigan's 10th congressional district, in a statement. Parks is known as an activist who helped lead the civil rights movement, beginning with her refusal to move from her seat on a Montgomery, AL, bus on Dec. 1, 1955. That bus …

U.S. Rep. Candice Miller, who represents Shelby Township in Washington, D.C., voiced opposition to several actions proposed by President Barack Obama in his 2013 State of the Union Tuesday.
The need to expand domestic energy production and innovation was one of the only topics addressed by President Barack Obama during his State of the Union Tuesday to receive support from U.S. Rep. Candice Miller (R-MI). Miller, who serves Michigan’s 10th congressional district, released a number of statements following Tuesday’s speech detailing her opposing view on issues ranging from state election rights to tax increases. Chief among her concerns was the president’s response to the ongoing “sequester” – a series of automatic, across-the-board budget cuts enacted into law in 2011 and due to take effect at the end of the month unless Congress passes a resolution to avoid it. “During tonight’s address to the nation, the President outlined …

Congresswoman says the proposals are "an overreach of executive authority" and "inadequate in addressing the root cause" of tragedies such as Newtown.
U.S. Rep. Candice Miller, R-MI 10, criticized plans announced Wednesday by President Barack Obama indicating strict gun control measures. “The murder of innocent children in Newtown, Connecticut was a heinous act that demands action to better protect our children," Miller wrote in a statement Wednesday. "It is unfortunate that the Obama administration is focusing far too much on the method used instead of the root cause of why it happened. The vast majority of firearm owners in America are law abiding citizens simply exercising the right of self defense for themselves and their families guaranteed by the Second Amendment of our Constitution." According to the White House fact sheet, Obama’s plan includes: Miller also was critical of the …
