Macomb County motorists can expect delays this weekend on Groesbeck, as construction will prompt lane closures. According to the Michigan Department of Transportation, northbound and southbound Groesbeck Highway will have single- and double-lane closures between 13 Mile and Utica roads beginning 5 a.m. Saturday until 5 a.m. Monday for utility work. Mi Drive allows users to explore closures and construction across the state, including the Macomb County area, through its website. It also reflects live traffic incidents like accidents on major freeways like I-696 and I-94 in southeastern Michigan.

With Auburn Road construction due to continue through July, small business owners between Ryan and Dequindre are asking customers to continue their support and not be deterred by tedious detours.
Summer can’t come quick enough for small business owners on Auburn Road in Shelby Township. Just one month into what promises to be a messy, albeit necessary reconstruction of Auburn Road between Ryan and Dequindre, area businesses are already feeling the loss of customers deterred by orange barrels and barriers. “It’s a complicated procedure and definitely has affected business,” said Doris Mukalla, owner of the International Book Centre at 2391 Auburn Rd. “Drivers see the barriers and stay away.” While parts of Auburn Road are still accessible, the road will be completely closed to through traffic at the height of construction. The Michigan Department of Transportation plans to conduct around $187 million worth of work in in 2013 on 80 miles of pavement and 15 bridges in the Metro Detroit area.

The Shelby Township board has unanimously approved two cost-share projects to widen Van Dyke from 25 Mile to 26 Mile and improve the pedestrian and bike crossing at Dequindre Road between 23 Mile and 24 Mile.
Shelby Township has committed to invest another half a million dollars in area infrastructure this year following board approval of two projects to improve Van Dyke and Dequindre. Earlier this month, the township approved $800,000 to cover its portion of the cost for widening Hayes Road from 21 to 23 Mile Road. The Macomb County Department of Roads has scheduled the $2.7 million reconstruction project to start in February 2013.
Shelby Township's westernmost section of Auburn Road will be one of the first county roads to undergo construction as orange barrel season 2013 gets underway next month. The Macomb County Department of Roads has scheduled more than $38 million in road projects this year, with the $2.7 million reconstruction of Auburn Road between Dequindre and Ryan leading the way. The reconstruction is due to start in February and wrap up by July, at which point three additional projects will already be in progress in the township. Starting in June, and to the tune of $8.6 million, construction crews will begin widening Hayes Road to five lanes between 21 and 23 mile roads.
