Man Attacks Stranger for Sticking Up for His Wife

A 33-year-old Farmington man, who had been insulting his wife during a shopping trip at Target on Hall Road, allegedly attacked a fellow customer who defended the suspect's spouse, according to a Utica police report. At about 7 p.m. March 10, a 50-year-old Sterling Heights man overheard the suspect swearing and yelling at his wife inside the store and told him "he shouldn't be using that type of language or treating his wife like that," the report states. He told police the husband then began swearing at him as he attempted to walk away. He then pushed an unknown object, possibly a can, into his back and punched him in the face as he turned around, police said. Hit-and-Run Driver to Police: I Didn't Know What to Do

A 40-year-old Sterling Heights woman crashed into a driver Feb. 17 on Hall Road near the M-53 expressway and fled the scene, according to Utica police. The woman in a black Buick SUV struck the silver Chrysler van around 7:20 p.m. and then initially pulled over on the shoulder. When the van followed onto the shoulder, the suspect fled despite the victim honking and trying to wave her down to stop, the police report stated. The victim wrote down a partial plate, but a witness was able to give police the complete license plate number. When police arrived to the suspect's home, they found her damaged SUV parked in a neighbor's driveway. She acknowledged that she was in an accident but told police she "didn't know what to do so she drove home…

Unfazed by Taser, Retail Fraud Suspect Plows Through Frigid Utica Pond, Police Say

A 21-year-old Clinton Township man's pursuit of a $300 headphone set from Best Buy landed him in hot water after jumping in a cold pond, according to Utica police. Around 8:30 p.m. Jan. 31, store employees notified Utica police of an alleged shoplifter who fled without paying for a pair of Dr. Dre Beats Headphones. When officers tried to stop him, he ran through the parking lot toward the rear of the store. A police officer deployed his Taser, hitting him with one probe but he continued on, the police report states. The suspect then ran into the retention pond behind the complex, pushing through water and ice. Man Allegedly Holds Spouse Hostage, Bar Patron Exposes Himself and Purse Snatched in Utica

Unable to escape from her husband, a 24-year-old Utica woman text messaged her friend to dispatch police to her home at the 45000 block of Kensington around 4:40 a.m. Jan. 3, according to Utica police. When they arrived, police found the woman in the kitchen with the 25-year-old man, described as her common-law husband, who claimed nothing happened between the pair. However, the woman said he pointed a gun at her head while they were in the car, threatened to kill her and would not let her escape the vehicle, police said. She said when he finally drove her home, he refused to leave so she secretly sent her friend a text message, telling her send police to her home out of fear she would be harmed, police said. Man Charged In Biggby Donation Jar Theft

A 21-year-old man was charged Tuesday in the theft of a veterans donation jar theft.

A 21-year-old man was charged after police said he stole a donation jar containing hundreds of dollars for a Macomb County fallen soldiers' monument at the Biggby Coffee in Shelby Township Monday evening. Bryan Burrows was arraigned on charges of larceny from a building and possesion of narcotics in 41-A District Court Tuesday. A judge set a $15,000 bond for each charge and a probable cause hearing for Feb. 21. Employees said Burrows had been sitting at the store on Van Dyke, just north of 23 Mile for about an hour before he walked up to the register around 9:15 p.m. as employees worked to close up and grabbed the donation jar off the counter. Burrows stormed out of the coffee shop and ran into his SUV parked outside, police said. …
