The owner of the Comfort Inn in Utica and Shelby Town Center in Shelby Township also is donating money to St. Therese of Lisieux Roman Catholic Church in Shelby.
A local businessman is offering a $1,000 reward leading to the arrest and conviction of robbers who stole from a Shelby Township church following Easter services. Developer and attorney Thomas Guastello, who owns the Comfort Inn in Utica and Shelby Town Center, is also donating $1,000 to the church, St. Therese of Lisieux Roman Catholic Church in Shelby Township, to help support its efforts in the community. "This type of criminal conduct is unacceptable and violates the basic fiber of our community...It is absolutely reprehensible that people would rob a church and steal a large amount of collection money and chalices," Guastello said in a statement about the reward. The Easter Bunny is in the building. Peter Cottontail will make his grand entrance Saturday, March 9, in the Food Court at Lakeside Mall. The floppy-eared Easter legend will be available for photos Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sundays from noon until 6 p.m. However, he will take periodic carrot breaks throughout the day. Shelby Township and Stony Creek's 2013 Easter Egg Scrambles as well as Utica's Easter Egg Hunt are all March 23.
Hold on to your baskets, Shelby Township and Utica. This year's Shelby Township, Stony Creek and Utica Easter egg hunts are all scheduled for the same day. Shelby Township Parks & Recreation will host its free Easter Egg Scramble on March 23 at River Bends Park, 5700 22 Mile Rd. This event is open to Shelby Township and Utica residents. Ages 3-5 are welcome to scramble across the egg-hunting grounds starting at 1 p.m., with ages 6-10 starting at 2 p.m. Guests must supply their own basket and the Easter Bunny is scheduled to make an appearance as well, so be sure to bring your camera!
