Monthly Electronics Recycling Event Returns to Shelby Township Saturday

Residents from all local communities may drop off their used televisions, computers, cell phones and other electronic devices to be recycled at no charge.

Those looking to get a jump on their spring cleaning can start this Saturday by disposing of any broken or used electronics at Shelby Township's monthly recycling event. Held on the last Saturday of every month, save December, individual residents, schools, churches, businesses, libraries and other municipalities have the opportunity to safely recycle a variety of electronic devices for free. The event runs 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the municipal grounds south entrance on Van Dyke, just south of 24 Mile Road. Per the township’s new contract with Vintage Tech Recyclers, which runs the monthly collection, charitable and community organizations can also benefit from the event, earning up to $250 for their group by volunteering their time. Will You Buy Starbucks' New Reusable Cups?

The coffee company will start offering the $1 cups Thursday.

Starting Thursday, Starbucks will be offering a more eco-friendly way to enjoy their coffee According to the Detroit Free Press, the coffee giant will begin selling reusable cups on Jan. 3 in an attempt to reduce the waste created by customers purchasing millions of beverages every day—and throwing their cups away. The cups will retail for $1 and fill up to a grande size of a cup of joe. Each refill in a reusable cup—be it one of the new tumblers or another Starbucks mug—earns the user a dime off their purchase. The cups have already debuted on the west coast, but will hit all Starbucks location in the U.S. and Canada—including stores in Shelby Township and Utica—on Thursday. Macomb County Chamber Gathers All Things Green

Green business is big business at the fourth annual All Things Green Conference and Expo.

The Macomb County Chamber hosted its fourth annual All Things Green Conference and Expo Wednesday at the IBEW NECA Training Facility in Warren. The expo was marked by enthusiasm and pragmatic optimism as business and community leaders from Macomb County and beyond gathered to share, promote, and celebrate each other's innovations in green technology. Every presentation made mention of the excitement of being on the forefront of a new era of industry. And while much was made of the benefits green technologies have on the environment, a considerable emphasis was also placed on the economic benefits businesses stand to profit from when green technology is embraced.
