The holiday giving season wafts through the air in Shelby Township, much like the scent of fresh brewed coffee at Biggby. While working from the Biggby Coffee on 21 and Hayes Road, I happened to look up in time to catch an adorable 8-year-old drop several toys into a bin for underprivileged kids. The smile that beamed on her face as she dropped the unwrapped presents into the box could have lit the entire coffee shop for a week. Julia Weihs' mom told Patch they have been wanting to drop off toys all week and finally got around to it Tuesday. "It feels like I am giving something to someone, so they have stuff like I have," said the Collins Elementary School student. Random acts of kindness like this are in abudance during the holiday …

As the Editor of the Shelby-Utica Patch, I want to thank the community for helping me make the site a success. Now, here's a list of my Top 10 Most Memorable Moments with Patch.
While it's been just over a year since I launched the Shelby-Utica Patch, Dec. 23 to be exact, I have met so many wonderful people, covered great triumphs for our little Macomb County jewels and had a blast doing it. I have tackled so many issues in the past year from the rollercoaster ride of Shelby Township politics to literally a rollercoaster ride down one of the world's largest inflatable slides at Stony Creek. As a journalist and editor, there are just some stories that I have to run to get information out to the public because that's my job. While Christmas is among the top two Christian holidays in terms of importance, Hanukkah is considered a minor holiday for the Jewish people. Nevertheless, it has become one of the more widely celebrated Jewish holidays and is certainly a favorite among children. Hanukkah commemorates the victory of the Jews over the Syrian Greeks in 164 BCE (Before Common Era) and is celebrated by lighting one additional candle in a candelabrum, called a hanukkiah (or menorah) for eight days. Shelby Township is aglow with Christmas just around the corner and residents are displaying their holiday spirits with festive decorations. Santa, caroling, more holiday cheer delight hundreds at annual event.
Santa and Mrs. Claus helped ring in the holiday season Thursday night during the Shelby Township’s Christmas Aglow tree lighting event. Hundreds gathered at the municipal grounds to see Kris Kringle, and the township’s tree set to lights. There was also lots of other fun activities including: crafts, caroling, marshmallow roasts, free snacks and coffee, and horse drawn carriage rides. Many lined up throughout the parking lot to see Santa and Mrs. Claus, who were welcoming visitors inside Hope Chapel.
