Detroit Institute of Arts Thanks Metro Area Voters for 'Regional' Support

The 2012 approval of a millage to help support the museum "was an amazing statement on regionalism," DIA chief operating officer Annmarie Erickson said recently, despite many area communities, like Shelby Township, rejecting the measure.

Regionalism was the word of the day recently when the Detroit Institute of Arts announced which suburban communities would host Inside|Out installations this spring and summer. Shelby Township and Utica were among the 25 communities selected to host reproductions of the museum's masterpieces as part of the 2013 program, which will be the first since a millage to help support the DIA was passed in August. Macomb Township will host the Detroit Institute of Art's Inside/Out Program this fall with the installation of seven reproductions from the DIA's collection along the new walking path in Macomb Corners Park.

The Detroit Institute of Arts won’t let guests ride their bikes through the galleries, but when prized prints from the DIA make their way to Macomb Corners Park this fall, there will be no stopping the union of art and exercise. As part of its 125th anniversary celebration, the DIA, in partnership with SM/ART Editions, has selected cities throughout Macomb, Oakland, Wayne and Washtenaw counties to participate in its Inside|Out program, which takes 40 framed, life-size digital reproductions of art from its collection to the streets and parks of local communities.
