Second graders at Monfort Elementary School learned the value of helping the less fortunate this past holiday season.
Second-graders from Shelby Township's Monfort Elementary got a lesson in giving this holiday season. Jennifer Brinich's second grade students collected blankets and items for personal hygiene kits that they assembled. They then donated the goods to Utica's Trinity Lutheran Church for Trinity's Supper/Sack Lunch/Shower (SSS) program and the Metro Family Center. The Monfort Elementary class collected 47 blankets and 52 hygiene kits. "We are grateful for Mrs. Brinich's class," said Dan Karlin, Trinity's Minister of Social Outreach. "Their willingness to help others at this time of year is very much appreciated." Trinity's SSS program helps an average of 125 people per week, 20% of whom are homeless and 80% who are income-challenged. …
