Levin, Miller Weigh in on Obamacare Repeal Vote

Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Sander Levin and Congresswoman Candice Miller, who each represent Macomb County communities, share their opposing responses to the actions in Washington D.C.

Sharing their opposing views to The Patients' Rights Repeal Act, Sander Levin and Candice Miller argued their opinions on the controversial debate through public statements this week. Levin and Miller each represent Metro Detroit communities, including several that span throughout Macomb County. The House majority voted Thursday to repeal Obamacare—formally known as the Affordable Care Act. Many expect it will not pass in the Democratic-controlled Senate.  Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Sander Levin, a Democrat, made the following statement on the House floor in opposition to the 37th ObamaCare repeal vote, his office announced Thursday: "I rise today in opposition to The Patients’ Rights Repeal Act. This vote is more than just a …

Many new taxes are coming our way! Be careful what people tell you because they tell you some of the good points but when you check the details it isn't that great. There has to be a better way to cover uninsured other then …   more ›

Macomb County's Diverse Housing Market Factors into Rebound

Consumer confidence is rising along with home sale prices.

Metro Detroit house prices climbed more than 20 percent from this March compared to last March, with increases across the board, according to recently released Realcomp statistics. Macomb County is no exception to the rebound, with real estate experts calling its market diverse and home sales on the rise. Additionally, the average days on market dropped by 10 days, indicating that houses are moving faster and higher prices than they were last year, Realcomp states. Darralyn Bowers, president and CEO, ERA Bowers & Associates in Southfield noted, "the primary reason for the positive trend in home sale prices is consumer confidence. As the economy is perceived as stable, home buyers are no longer fearful. "Demographics continue to grow new …

Macomb Judge Dismisses Lawsuit Against DIA

The plaintiffs said they filed the lawsuit against the Detroit museum after they were charged for an exhibit.

A Macomb County Circuit Court judge on Wednesday dismissed a lawsuit filed by five county residents against the Detroit Institute of Arts, according to court records. Plaintiffs Simon Haddad of Clinton Township, Leon Drolet of Macomb Township, Judy and Dennis Buchholtz of Warren and Philis DeSaele of Sterling Heights alleged in the lawsuit they were denied free admission Dec. 1 to the Faberge exhibit—which they contend violated terms of a tri-county millage. Judge John Foster's opinion, including the denial to amend their pleadings, means the case is closed, the Detroit Free Press reported. According to the Art Institute Service Agreement between the Macomb County Art Institute Authority and the DIA, the museum would provide "unlimited, …

Taxed Enuff Already

6:44 pm on Wednesday, April 10, 2013

If it was only a matter of insolvent private institutions being bailed out by the taxpayers, that would be bad enough, but it's even more insidious than that. Here we have a Director helping himself to a salary and benefit package just south of half a million per year that we now subsidize. I think the person running the Louvre in Paris makes about a fourth of that. Let them eat cake! Kind of …   more ›
