Here are some nuggets of truths offered by Patch readers, including Nancy Czarny of Chesterfield Township - winner of Patch's Mother's Day Contest.
For as long as she can remember, Nancy Czarny's mother has been giving her simple advice to get through life. "Do what you know is right" are the six simple words that Czarny, the winner - chosen randomly - of Patch's 2012 Mother's Day Contest, remembers her mother saying most frequently. "That's what she would tell me when I was a young girl having problems with things at school or issues with friends or jobs, when I was older," recalls Czarny, of Chesterfield Township. "In essence, she was she telling me to follow my gut, do what I know is right." It's the same advice Czarny passes on to her 6-year-old daughter. "I tell her to be who she is. And to do what she knows is right and not to follow what others are doing." Last week, we asked …

After 31 years apart, Shelby Township mother will spend Mother's Day with her daughter for the first time.
Thirty-one years later and half a world away, Talei Berger’s dream has come true. She will spend Mother’s Day with her daughter. “It’s a wonderful dream come true,” said Berger, a Shelby Township resident. “Every Mother’s Day, I dreamed about it,” Berger said. “I can’t believe it’s happening. It’s quite overwhelming. The enormity of it—I just don’t think about it.” The daughter, Cara MacKenzie, scoured the Internet from her home in New Zealand to track down Berger. After conversations on Skype and meeting face-to-face in Hawaii last August, MacKenzie moved to Michigan last month to live with Berger. On Sunday, they will spend Mother’s Day together for the first time. “It’s hard to describe,” said the 31-year-old MacKenzie. “It makes me …
