Motorcyclist Killed on Mound Road; Police Say Alcohol a Factor

A man was killed when his motorcycle ran off Mound Road Sunday, just south of 26 Mile Road.

Alcohol may have played a role in a fatal motorcycle crash Sunday evening on Mound Road, according to Shelby Township police. Police said the motorcycle driver approached a sharp curve on Mound Road, just south of 26 Mile Road at a high rate of speed around 8 p.m. The motorcyclist was going too fast and could not complete the turn, according to Shelby Township Police Chief Roland Woelkers. The man was critically injured in the fall. He was transported to Henry Ford Hospital, where he later died. Police said in a release that it appears alcohol may have been a contributing factor in this crash.  The driver’s name is not being released due to an ongoing investigation. ANYTIME there is ANY alcohol present, the police are REQUIRED to list it as "a factor". The LAW says that you may consume the equivalent of two beers in an hour and legally drive a vehicle. Therefore, he may have stopped to see a buddy and had one beer, and crashed for a completely different reason. Those who have NEVER had EVEN ONE drink with dinner then drove home may continue to cast stones.   more ›
