Ford, UAW Kick in Remainder of 'Heart of America' War Memorial Tab

The "Heart of America" war memorial in Mount Clemens will be unveiled Sunday.

Ford Motor Company and United Auto Workers Local 400 of Shelby Township have kicked in the remaining costs for the "Heart of America" memorial in Mount Clemens. The 9-foot solid granite, 7,000-pound sculpture will be unveiled at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in front of the Macomb County Administration Building on Cass Avenue at Northbound Gratiot in Mount Clemens. Shelby Township Veterans Coordinator Phil Randazzo initiated the project more than 10 years ago, and has collected over $50,000 in donations from private donors to pay for the memorial. And at the 11th hour, UAW 400 along with Ford CEO Alan Mulally endorsed the project and agreed to pay the remaining balance.  Randazzo would not say how much Ford and the UAW paid, but he said it was a …

Accused Mount Clemens Fireworks Shooter to Have Prelim Exam This Month

Demitrus Ludaway, 18 of Warren, is scheduled for a preliminary exam July 16 at 41B District Court in Clinton Township.

An 18-year-old Warren man accused of shooting another man at the Mount Clemens fireworks will have a preliminary exam this month. Demitrus Ludaway is scheduled for a preliminary exam at 8:30 a.m. July 16 at 41B District Court in Clinton Township before Judge Linda Davis, according to the court. Ludaway faces charges of assault with intent to murder, armed robbery and felony firearm, police said. He was lodged in Macomb County Jail in lieu of a $75,000 cash/surety bond. Alleged Stars & Stripes Shooter to Face Felony Assault, Armed Robbery and Firearm Charges

Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham has identified Demitrus Marcellas Ludaway as the suspect who shot a Detroit man in the leg Friday at the Mount Clemens Stars & Stripes Festival.

The 18-year-old Warren man accused of shooting a Detroit resident at the Mount Clemens Stars & Stripes Festival Friday will face multiple felony charges this week, police say. Demitrus Marcellas Ludaway is facing charges of assault with intent to murder, armed robbery and felony firearm, according to police. He is currently being held in the Macomb County Jail on a $75,000 cash/surety bond and is expected to be arraigned Monday in 41B District Court in Clinton Township. Shooting At Mount Clemens Fireworks Over Sunglasses

An 18-year-old Warren man was arrested Friday night after a shooting at the Stars and Stripes Festival in downtown Mount Clemens.

A confrontation over Cartier sunglasses turned violent Friday night at the popular Stars and Stripes Festival in downtown Mount Clemens, police said. As thousands of people left the annual fireworks display around 10:35 p.m., an 18-year-old Warren man shot a 19-year-old Detroit man in the leg on Market Street, Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said Saturday. "There was a confrontation between two males," Wickersham said. "The suspect took the glasses off the head of the victim." When the victim went to get his glasses back, the suspect "pulls out a gun and shoots him in the leg," he said. The suspect then dropped the gun and fled. Macomb Biggbys to Begin Fundraiser For Fallen Soldiers Monument

Fundraising will begin Feb. 1 to help pay for a veteran's monument in Mount Clemens to commemorate Macomb County's fallen soldiers.

All nine Biggby Coffee shops in Macomb County will begin selling icons in order to raise money for a veteran’s monument in Mount Clemens. The 9-foot structure will be in the shape of a pentagon and will feature twin towers on the top to honor Sept. 11 victims. The names of the county's fallen soldiers who died during the War on Terrorism will be inscribed along the side of the columns. Biggby Franchise Owner Dave Danyko and Veterans Affairs Coordinator for Shelby Township, Phil Randazzo, introduced the fund-raising effort at the last Board of Trustees meeting. UPDATE: New Evidence Links Suspect to Mount Clemens Murder

A man who was arrested in June for allegedly assaulting a victim before he was found stabbed to death was arraigned on second-degree murder charges.

A man who was arrested in June for allegedly assaulting a victim before the victim was found stabbed to death inside of his Mount Clemens apartment was arraigned on second-degree murder charges today. Chiumbo Kamau Henry, 34, of Mount Clemens was re-arrested Tuesday arraigned on the charges by Magistrate Goulette of the 41B District Court. Henry received a $1,000,000 cash surety bond. Kenneth Lee Jones, 48, was found stabbed to death in his apartment at 189 Cass Avenue on June 26. Henry was arrested later that day for an alleged attack on the victim on May 8. He was arrested and charged with assault in 41B District Court. A $500 bond was set. The Macomb County Sheriff's Department said detectives arrested Henry after they uncovered new …
