Homes Going Up and Subdivisions Filling is Hint at Recovery in Shelby

Drive through Shelby Township, and the new homes and subs going up are evidence of a slight boom in new homes being built.

Michigan’s residential building is nowhere near where it was at its 2004 peak, but in Shelby Township and across the state, the signs of recovery are unmistakable. For visual proof, simply drive through new subdivisions in Shelby Township, such as Preston Pines, and you will see builders are once again pouring basements, building frames and hanging for sale signs on single-family homes and condominiums. By the numbers, home building is picking up Michigan, with nearly 7,800 permits issued as of September—a 32 percent increase over last year, according to the Home Builders Association of Michigan. And in Shelby Township, the number of residential home permits requested for 2012—261 has already surpassed the total for 2011, which was 257. …
