DIA Selects Shelby Township, Utica for Inside|Out Program

The communities are among those throughout Metro Detroit chosen to host outdoor art installations this spring and summer.

The Detroit Institute of Arts has selected Shelby Township and Utica among the Metro area communities that will feature Inside|Out outdoor art installations this spring and summer. "Now in its fourth year, Inside|Out brings reproductions of masterpieces from the DIA’s collection to the streets of metro Detroit," a DIA press release said. "Inside|Out aims to connect with audiences outside the museum walls in places where they live, work and play." Heat Melts Most Of Utica Riverwalk Festival

Attendance at first annual event low due to extreme temperatures.

Extreme temperatures burned attendance at Utica’s first annual Riverwalk Festival as temps Thursday, Friday, and Saturday climbed into the upper 90s. Still, activities went on as planned and those who did brave the heat enjoyed the events.  The festival was the brainchild of Utica's Downtown Development, which is made up of area business owners. DDA members partnered with the Sterling Heights Chamber of Commerce and Industry to bring the event to the community.  “We are trying to bring families out and have a great event and focus on Utica’s new river walk,” said Wayne Oehmke, president of the Sterling Heights Chamber of Commerce and Industry.  The event should be the first of many Riverwalk festivals, said John Sattman, owner of the Cass …

Riverwalk Street Closures; Where to Park?

Before you head out to the Riverdays Festival in Utica July 5-8, find out where to park and which streets will be closed.

The small city of Utica, which has just under 5,000 residents, is hoping to double it's population size in visitors this weekend during the first annual Riverwalk Festival.  The city, along with the help of local business owners, has orchestrated a massive four day festival July 5-8, that will include family-fun events such as a carnival, fireworks show on Friday and Saturday nights, a plastic piggy race, classic car cruise and live music. Patch has a full list of festivities and a schedule of events. But with the swell in visitors comes street closures and designated parking lots. Before you head out, check out street closure times and find out where to park. Road closure from 6p.m. Friday to 2:00 a.m. Sunday

Schedule of Events for 1st Utica Riverwalk Festival

There will be a lot going on in downtown Utica for the first Riverwalk Festival. Don't miss out on any of the fun. Here's a schedule of events.

The stage is set for Utica's first Riverwalk Festival in downtown Utica July 6-8.  The festival is the brainchild of Utica's Downtown Development, which is made up of area business owners. DDA members said the summber bash will celebrate the Riverwalk and downtown businesses. Attendees are in for a big treat as the inaugural festival will include two days of spectacular fireworks, a carnival, a classic car cruise, a piggy race fundraiser, live music and a parade.
