MDOT Commits $16.6M to Reconstruct Van Dyke Freeway North of Shelby Township

The Michigan Department of Transportation plans to conduct around $187 million worth of work in in 2013 on 80 miles of pavement and 15 bridges in the Metro Detroit area.

Enjoy the snow while it lasts, motorists. Once winter shifts into construction season, most of the highest traveled thoroughfares surrounding Shelby Township and Utica will undergo resurfacing work. The Michigan Department of Transportation announced this week that it plans to award approximately $187 million in contracts during 2013 to improve 80 miles of pavement and repair 15 bridges in the MDOT Metro Region. Roughly $16.6 million of this total has been allocated to reconstructing more than 4 miles along M-53 (Van Dyke Freeway) between 34 Mile and Bordman roads, with another $30.3 million designated to resurface 5 miles of I-94 between I-696 and Masonic, and more than 3 miles of Groesbeck between Hayes and 14 Mile. MDOT Launches Blog to Share, Chat With Metro Detroiters

#MetroMerge will allow residents and MDOT to interact on transportation issues.

The Michigan Department of Transportation has launched a new blog to allow residents to talk about transportation issues. The blog, #MetroMerge, is MDOT's hope to increase outreach to residents of MDOT's Metro Region, which includes Macomb, Oakland, St. Clair and Wayne counties. Construction Alert: Van Dyke Between 24 and 25 Mile Road Closed

Detours will be posted beginning Friday as construction crews shut down Van Dyke between 24 and 25 Mile Road to work on replacing a drain.

Construction crews have closed Van Dyke Avenue between 24 and 25 Mile roads in Shelby Township through the weekend. Van Dyke Avenue will be completely closed at the Clinton River so construction crews can replace a drain culvert.  There will be no traffic allowed to cross the river for the entire duration of the project.  The remainder of Van Dyke Avenue, just around the river, will remain open to allow people to access local businesses and residential roads.  The closure began at 6 p.m. Friday and is expected to re-open at 6 a.m. Monday. Project Engineer Bryan Santo said if crews finish the project earlier, the road will by reopen Sunday.
