Money Stolen During St. Lawrence Catholic Church Break-in

Information in this crime brief was supplied by Utica police. Where arrest information may apply it does not indicate convictions.

An investigation is underway to determine who broke into a Catholic church and stole cash that was likely from Sunday Mass offerings, Utica police said Wednesday. The crime took place between Sunday night and early Monday morning at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Utica Police Chief Dave Faber said. "Someone got into a back window and broke into the building," Faber said. "They got away with some cash." The undisclosed amount of cash was taken from safes inside the church office after the robber or robbers broke in through the school section of the building, he said. No suspects were known but police are exploring all possibilities. Anyone with information is asked to call Utica police.

Shelby Resident Robbed at Knife-Point at ATM On Van Dyke

A man wearing a ski-mask robbed a Shelby Township resident at knife-point Saturday at an ATM Machine on 22 and Van Dyke.

A Shelby Township resident was robbed at knife-point Saturday while withdrawing cash from an automated teller machine on 22 Mile and Van Dyke roads. Police said the victim was withdrawing money from the Charter One Bank ATM around 6 p.m. Saturday when a knife-wielding thief approached and robbed the resident. No vehicle was seen as the thief fled the parking lot on foot. The victim was not injured during the robbery. The thief is described as a black male, about 5 foot 8 inches tall and weighing 150 pounds. He was wearing dark clothes, a black hooded sweatshirt and a ski-mask.  Anyone with information is asked to call the Shelby Township Police Department at 586-731-2121.

Armed Men Break-In To Several Shelby Township Businesses

Shelby Township police have released photos of two armed men who broke into several businesses last week, in hopes that someone will recognize the men.

Two armed men broke into several Shelby Township businesses last week and stole handguns and a vehicle. The break-ins occurred at several businesses on 22 Mile Road between Ryan and Shelby roads sometime between midnight and 3 a.m. on Oct. 7. Detective James Malczewski said police will not release the names of the businesses robbed because the case is under investigation. Surveillance video at one of the businesses robbed rolled as the men, one carring a long gun and wearing a hoodie, and the other carrying a glock-type handgun in a holster on his right hip, riffled through the businesses. Women Accused of Stealing Baby Clothing From Carter's, Gymboree, Babies 'R' US

The following information was supplied by the Utica Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Police stopped three women last week on Hall Road after they allegedly stole more than $700 in children’s clothing and merchandise from baby stores in Utica. The women were pulled over at a gas station on Hall and Schoenherr roads last Wednesday after the manager at Carter’s Clothing called police and reported that three women had just left the store with several bags of unpaid clothing. Police spotted the vehicle, and inside found three Detroit women, ranging in ages of 28 to 38. The driver had a suspended license and one of the passengers had a gun and a concealed weapons permit. Her gun was confiscated and her license taken. Inside the vehicle, police found bags full of clothes from Carter’s, Gymboree and Children’s Place. There were …

Woman Robbed, Assaulted While Dropping Off Clothing Donation

The incident happened in the drive-through area of the Rochester Hills Salvation Army store; a Shelby Township man is in custody.

A woman dropping off a donation at the Rochester Hills Salvation Army store was robbed and assaulted by a man and woman in the store's drive-through drop-off area on Wednesday night. According to an Oakland County Sheriff's Office report, the victim was dropping off used clothes at the store, which is located on Auburn Road between Rochester and John R roads. The store has a drive-through area that allows drivers to pull up and easily unload their donations. The incident occurred just before 9 p.m. According to the report, the woman rang the store's service bell for help with her donations when an SUV approached her vehicle. Utica Police: Serial Thief Robs Dollar Tree at Gunpoint

Utica police are looking for a man who held-up the Dollar Tree at gunpoint Monday.

Utica police are looking for a serial thief who robbed a store at gunpoint Monday in the city. The man, described as white and between 40 and 50 years old, is suspected of similar crimes in Chesterfield, Sterling Heights and Roseville. Police said the man entered the Dollar Tree at 13477 Hall Road around 4 p.m. Just before approaching the teller, the man covered his face with a handkerchief and then pointed a black pistol at the cashier while he demanded cash. The thief was able to get away with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said. Witnesses reported seeing an older red vehicle--possibly a Ford Escort--fleeing the scene. Washington Township Bank Robbed 2nd Time in Month

Investigators believe bank robberies may be related.

The Macomb County Sheriff's Department is investigating a bank robbery in Washington Township. Investigators said a man entered the Best Bank at 64660 Van Dyke around 2:50 p.m. and handed the teller a handwritten note demanding cash. The man fled the bank with an undetermined amount of cash. The Best Bank was previously robbed on May 29, 2012, and investigators said in a news release that they believe the robberies may be related. The thief is described as an older white man with grey hair. Witnesses said he was wearing glasses. Anyone with information is asked to call the Macomb County Sheriff's Department at 586-291-1673.

DNA Links Man to 2010 Armed Robbery at Jared Galleria Of Jewelry

Police continue to search for four other men involved in the 2010 armed robbery of Jared Galleria of Jewelry.

DNA evidence has helped the Utica Police arrest one of five men allegedly involved in the attempted armed robbery of the Jared the Galleria of Jewelry in 2010. Kalen Edward Player, 19, of Detroit was video arraigned on charges of attempted armed robbery Tuesday by 41-A District Court Magistrate Michael Osaer, who placed a $25,000 bond on Player. Police said that Player and three other men entered Jared's in Utica on September 22, 2010, armed with a gun, pepper spray and a crowbar, while one man waited in a getaway vehicle in the parking lot.  One man sprayed employees with pepper spray in the jewelry store, which was open for business, while another man attempted to break open a Rolex watch display with a crowbar. Police Investigate Armed Robbery at Apartment Complex

A person was robbed at Fox Lane Apartments on Tuesday night, according to Shelby Township police.

Shelby Township police are investigating an armed robbery at Fox Lane Apartments near West Utica and Mound roads on Tuesday night at 8:15 p.m. Police said a gunman approached a group of people walking in between the buildings, pointed the gun at them, and ordered them to the ground. It's unclear exactly what was stolen, but Detective Stan Muszynski said property was taken from the victims. No one was hurt in the incident. A witness described the armed man as a white male in his 20s.
