Shelby Township and representatives from Sunoco will hold a town hall meeting on May 30 to discuss the oil company's pipeline which runs through Shelby Township, Rochester and Rochester Hills.
Residents will have the chance to speak with Shelby Township officials, and representatives from Sunoco, about a pipeline which runs through the community at a town hall meeting May 30. The meeting will discuss on-going work being done on the pipeline that runs through Rochester Hills, Rochester and Shelby Township from M‐59 to 26 Mile Road. Sunoco will conducting maintenance, and replacing, portions of the Mariner West pipeline throughout the northern portion of the township through July. According to the township, the work is largely being done to replace existing lengths of pipeline that have a thinner wall. May is National Bike Month in which the public is encouraged to keep cyclists' safety in mind.
With warm weather upon us, Macomb County drivers are encouraged to keep biker safety in mind. May is National Bike Month and this week is Bike to Work Week. Although the county claims paths for cyclists and runners, including the extensive Macomb Orchard Trail, bikers' rights are also crucial alongside roads. Two men were arrested Tuesday after one of them allegedly pointed a handgun at another driver during a road rage incident in Macomb Township, police said Thursday. At approximately 6:47 p.m., Macomb County Sheriff's deputies said they were called to the Hall and Hayes area after a motorist reported someone waved a handgun at him. They pulled over a 19-year-old Shelby Township man and his 20-year-old passenger from Virginia Beach, VA in the Hayes and 21 Mile area. When deputies approached the GMC Denali, they smelled marijuana. The men denied having a handgun, but when deputies searched the vehicle, they found a .40 caliber Smith and Wesson in the center console, the Sheriff's Office reports. Township officials said they were not included in a meeting between the Department of Environmental Quality and Ford regarding environmental contamination at the former plant on Mound Road.
Shelby Township officials stated Wednesday that they want additional access to meetings between the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality and Ford Motor Co. regarding contamination at the former Ford-Visteon Plant on Mound Road. But state officials said that the meetings were part of an ongoing cleanup process and the township could be briefed afterward. Township Supervisor Rick Stathakis stated that the township, its attorney and environmental science experts would be able unable to attend a meeting Tuesday between the DEQ and Ford to discuss the cleanup of the environmental contamination at the former plant site and neighboring property. “Ford has known about this contamination for at least seven years and has not taken any action…

The event is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, May 3 at Apollo Lanes in Roseville
A bowling fundraiser is scheduled Friday to benefit a Utica High School graduate who was seriously injured in a motorcycle crash. Nick Manzo, 25, of Shelby Township, was struck by a motorist March 30 at Gratiot and Metro Parkway, suffering severe head trauma, according to The Macomb Daily. The fundraiser is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Apollo Lanes in Roseville. Advance tickets are $20 and $25 at the door and they include three bowling games, bowling shoes and food donated by Bath City Bistro in Mount Clemens. A 50/50 raffle and prizes will also be at the event, the newspaper reports.
The coaches represent schools from across the county, including those in Shelby Township and Utica.
The Macomb County Coaches Hall of Fame added 14 members Thursday night during a ceremony in Sterling Heights. Coaches from schools in Shelby Township and Utica were among those honored, according to The Macomb Daily.
