The Macomb-Shelby-Utica AYSO accepts soccer players age 4 to 18.
Parents who missed early registration for the Macomb region of the American Youth Soccer Organization have another chance to register their children Tuesday, from 6-8 p.m., at Dick's Sporting Goods in Utica. AYSO Region 459 serves Macomb Township, Shelby Township and Utica. The organization is now registering soccer players for the 2012-13 season. Region 459 offers programs for players age 4 (U-5) through age 18 (U-19). The season generally runs from early September through mid-October, takes a winter break, and then starts up again from mid-April through early June. Justin Meram, a graduate of Eisenhower High School and now a soccer player for the Columbus Crew, has been nominated for the AT&T Goal of the Week. Meram is up for the honor for his goal in the Crew's 1-1 tie against San Jose on Saturday, May 19, 2012. Meram has two goals in three games this season for Columbus. The Pilots edge out the Eagles in a close regional semifinal match.
Eisenhower's soccer season ended with a 2-1 loss to De La Salle on Wednesday. Twelve minutes into the first half of the MHSAA Regional 3 semifinal soccer game, Eisenhower freshman Travis Harrington scored to give Ike a 1-0 lead. With less than nine minutes left in the half, De La Salle’s Noah Hicks netted the tying goal. The score remained 1-1 into the halftime break, through the cool and wet weather. About halfway through the second half, De La Salle placed a deflected shot high into the corner of the the winning goal in the Pilots' 2-1 victory over over Eisenhower. The game was preceded by a 1-0 overtime victory for Troy Athens over Livonia Stevenson. Athens and De La Salle will meet Saturday, Oct. 29, in the regional final.

Plenty of highlights from the opening round of districts for Oakland County and Macomb County teams on Monday and Tuesday. More games are on tap this week.
High school soccer fans didn’t have to wait long for top teams in the state to face each other in the playoffs. Troy High and Rochester Adams, two of the state's top programs, played in the opening round on Monday. Giuseppe Serra is off to a hot start for the Eagles soccer squad this season. The Eisenhower senior has tallied 11 goals in the first six games for the Eagles as they look to defend their Macomb Area Conference Red Division title this year. "Joey is a senior coming back from his junior season where he was one of our big-time contributors," Eisenhower soccer coach Josh Van Houten said. Jeff Adkins makes the most of his summer of soccer by verbally committing to play at Butler University next fall.
Put your Adkins jersey on folks, this kid is going places. While most athletes took the summer to work on conditioning, rest nagging injuries or just chill out with friendly pickup games, Utica High School senior Jeff Adkins got down and dirty with his soccer future. For starters, the four-year varsity standout verbally committed to continue his soccer and studies at Butler University in Indiana next fall. The Division I school pursued Adkins, its top recruit, for months and he made his decision to become a Bulldog just after the July 4th holiday. The Michigan United Soccer League's Founders Cup Finals provided exciting, competitive soccer this weekend at Croatia Park.
The Michigan United Soccer League's 2011 Founders Cup final games were held on Sunday, Aug. 14 starting at Croatia Park in Shelby Township. This year marked the 26th Founders Cup tournament for the MUSL, the third-largest adult soccer league in the United States. "The day went really well considering the weather forecast looked really bad," said Larry Myers, Michigan United Soccer League administrator. "It was threatening all day and we've had a little bit of rain, but nothing that's caused us major problems. I think everyone is having a great time.
