Are you—like millions of other people—ready for some football? More importantly, who do you think will win, the San Francisco 49ers or the Baltimore Ravens? The NFL will hold Super Bowl XLVII on Sunday, and, though the Lions won’t be playing in it (as always), there are reasons for Michiganders to tune in to the big game. Michigan residents should love 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh, who starred at quarterback for the Michigan Wolverines in the mid-1980s. (Unless, of course, you root against Jim because you are a Michigan State Spartans fan. Or if you are a U-M fan who remembers when Harbaugh took a shot at the school’s academic standards. Or if you are Lions fan who remembers Harbaugh’s infamous handshake with Lions coach Jim Schwartz.) So, are…

Whether your team is playing or not, everyone looks forward to Super Bowl-style eating. Here are the best places to get game day grub, as well as some easy recipes you can whip up yourself at home.
On Feb. 3, Super Bowl Sunday XLVII will commence. Some people look forward to the game, the funny commercials and the halftime show (Destiny’s Child reunion!). But others are solely there for the wings, the nachos and the pizza—and rightfully so. There’s something about Super Bowl food that gives the day an almost Thanksgiving-like aura. Both events boast a big, communal meal—except on Super Bowl Sunday, it’s usually deep fried and covered in Buffalo sauce. In Shelby Township and Utica, there are plenty of local places that offer catering, and many restaurants that have special Super Bowl menus: If you’d rather whip something up yourself, try these easy recipes. And be sure to check out our Shelby-Utica Grocery Specials section for coupons…

Which ad did you like the most? Tell us in the comments below.
Millions of people tuned in Sunday night to watch the New York Giants overtake the New England Patriots 21-17 in Super Bowl XLVI. Football fans tuned in for the game, but the much anticipated and talked about commercials drew tons of others. Detroit found itself at the heart of the nation again this year when Chrysler aired a two-minute commercial featuring actor Clint Eastwood. The vehicle manufacturer aired a similar ad last year, featuring rapper Eminem. Which ad was your favorite this year?
But wherefore art thou, Adams quarterback? ('He didn't care about me,' Madonna tells NFL Network.)
On this Super Bowl weekend, it may be the ultimate Made-in-Rochester-Hills tale: Madonna revealing her days as a cheerleader for Adams High School helped get her ready for the stage. In an interview with NFL Network's Rich Eisen this week, Madonna admitted she was nervous about her upcoming halftime performance. She'll perform four songs Sunday night at halftime of the New York Giants-New England Patriots game. "Why don't you channel the inner Rochester Adams cheerleader self that still resides somewhere inside?" Eisen asked. Madonna smiled, remembered and reflected. "I think it was being a cheerleader that really got the showgirl bug inside of me," Madonna said. "I really liked choreographing all of the pom pom routines. I liked the …

I loved her half time show, but as a life long Detroit-Troy-Rochester resident I am really upset she left Detroit off of her world tour. What a slap in the face to us! She may claim to be a Rochester grad and "michigander" but she is far from it. If she wants me support her in the future, she needs to look to Kid Rock or Bob Seger for hometown lessons. I will never pay for another concert ticket …   more ›

Sunday's big game between the Patriots and Giants features several players with Michigan ties.
Another Super Bowl, another no-show for the Detroit Lions. Though the Lions had one of their most successful seasons in years, they will not appear in the NFL’s biggest game. They remain one of only four franchises without a Super Bowl appearance. Nevertheless, Super Bowl XLVI still is a big deal, and there are several Michigan connections to this year’s game between the New England Patriots and New York Giants. Are you a Michigan Wolverines fan? Then you probably will root for the Patriots and star quarterback Tom Brady, who will try to win his fourth Super Bowl ring. Punter Zoltan Mesko and backup quarterback Ryan Mallet, who played a season with the Wolverines before transferring to Arkansas, also are on the Patriots roster. (Then again…

The Hub in Macomb Township. Most amazing "bar" food I have ever had. You can tell nothing is out of a can or box, everything is so fresh and the presentation blows you away, you have to look around and remind yourself that you are in a Sports Bar.   more ›
