Utica PD: Woman Returns Stolen Purse After Admitting to Theft

A 39-year-old Shelby Township woman accused of stealing a Coach Purse from Plato's Closet in Utica faces third-degree retail theft charges. According to the police report, the woman, whose name is not being released pending formal arraignment, stole the Coach purse and $50 worth of jewelery from the store on Nov. 15. Upon reviewing surveillance video of the theft, police identified the woman and called her at home. Camera Lens Captures 'Wicked Eye' Thief

A Harrison Township man hired at Halloween Land in Utica to attract customers into the store attracted the police’s attention instead. Utica police said the 48-year-old man stole four Halloween contact lens cases from the retail store on the first day he was hired. When a manager at Halloween Land noticed the lenses behind the register were stolen on Oct. 10, he called police. The surveillance video showed the new hire go behind the computer and slip something into his pocket, according to Utica police reports. Police said the stolen packages of Wicked Eye Contact lenses were valued at $240. When questioned, the suspected thief admitted to stealing the lens, according to police, and returned the merchandise. He was arrested and charged …

Search On for Man Caught Masturbating, Photographing Girls at Partridge Creek

The following information was supplied by the Clinton Township Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Mall cops see man masturbating, photographing girls at Partridge Creek On Aug. 26 at approximately 4:22 p.m., loss prevention personnel began following a Hispanic male who was masturbating and taking pictures of young girls in the area of Nordstrom in The Mall at Partridge Creek. Mall security called police because they had observed him doing the same thing by the stage in the mall’s courtyard. Police were unable to apprehend the suspect, who is described as being in his late 30s and around 5 feet 4 inches tall. There have been no arrests at this time. Boat Left On Side of Road Ransacked

Thieves ransacked a boat that was left on the side of the road for a few hours in Utica.

On Monday evening, thieves ransacked a jet boat that was parked on the side of the road at Hall and Deshon. The boat owner told police that while he towed his boat home, a bolt had broken, casusing the hitch to loosen. The boat was left on the side of the road for several hours while the owner went home to call his insurance company and a tow truck. When the owner returned to the boat a few hours later, he noticed there were several items missing, including a camera case, camera lens, goggles, seat cushions, radio, CDs and cash from his wallet. The case was closed because of a lack of suspects. Anyone with information is asked to call the Utica Police Department at 586-731-2345.

Crime Report: Computer and Wallet Stolen From Mustang; Bike Stolen

Here's a look at some of the crimes reported in Shelby Township.

Laptop, Wallet Stolen From Vehicle A laptop computer and a wallet were stolen from a 2003 Ford Mustang parked near 26 and Van Dyke on June 15. A police report states the thief was able to get into the vehicle by damaging the convertible top. Stolen were a computer, wallet iPad. Rock Smashed Through Car Window A rock was thrown into the back of a parked Pontiac Aztec on June 16. Police said the vehicle was parked on Darlington Court. Nothing was taken from the vehicle. Catalytic Convertor Stolen The catalytic convertor was stolen from a Pontiac Montana parked on Walnut Court June 17. The thief also tried to cut off the exhaust, according to a police report. Theft Report: Police Looking for Cologne Thief, Baby Clothing Shoplifter Gets Away

Utica police had a busy week chasing down retail thieves.

Sam's Club Cologne Thief on the Loose The Utica Police are looking for a man accused of stealing cologne from Sam's Club on several occasions. On April 20, Sam's Club employees told police they witnessed a man tear open a Curve cologne package and attempt to conceal it in his jacket. Police said they know the man's identity because he paid for several other items with his credit card, but not the cologne. Store employees said the same man stole a Curve cologne on April 1. A warrant on two counts of larceny has been issued for the man. Camera Thief Arrested The Utica police arrested a man suspected of stealing a Sony digital camera from Best Buy on April 25. Crime Briefs: Freon Stolen from Air Conditioning Unit; Gas Siphoned from Truck

Freon, which is sold at more than $45 a pound, was stolen from a residential heating and cooling unit.

Freon Stolen From Air Conditioning Unit Freon was stolen from a residential air conditioning unit on Runnymeand Street last Friday. The homeonwers said when the unit stopped working, they went outside to find the unit damaged. Main Heating and Cooling told the homeowners the unit was missing more than 12 pounds of freon, which is sold for $45 a pound. The case was closed because of a lack of suspects. Gas Siphoned from Truck A Shelby Township resident told police gas was siphoned from his parked vehicle, which was left on Dunstable Drive, overnight Sunday. Couple Dashes Out Jared Jewelers With Rolex Watch On Wrist

Christmas comes early for a pair of thieves who stole a Rolex watch Friday from Jared Galleria of Jewelry.

The Utica police are looking for a couple that tried on a Rolex watch valued at $7,442 at Jared Galleria of Jewelry on Hall Road Friday and dashed out. Police said the man and woman entered the store around 11:30 a.m. and asked an employee to try on a specific Rolex watch.  The employee told police the man then asked to try on another Rolex watch. After the employee placed the watch on the man's arm, he yelled, "go" to the woman and ran out the door to the parking lot, according to a police report. The woman followed behind after a short delay, police said.  Police and K-9 units combed the parking lot for evidence, but police dogs lost the couple's scent in the parking lot. Utica Hair Salon Robbed; Police Solve Sam's Club TV Theft

Hue Salon in Utica Broken Into The Hue Salon on Cass Avenue in Utica was broken into early Tuesday morning. When the owner of the salon arrived Tuesday morning, he discovered the back door had been pried open and there was $200 missing from the front cash register. The thief also broke the basement doorknob and rummaged through drawers in the office, but nothing was taken. Utica detectives dusted the salon for latent fingerprints, but none were found. Fake Louis Vuitton Purse Stolen From Trunk; Car Tires Slashed

Purse Stolen From Trunk A Clinton Township woman's purse was stolen last Sunday from the trunk of her vehicle, which was parked outside JoAnn Fabric in Shelby Township. The woman told police she put her fake Loius Vuitton purse in the trunk of her vehicle as she helped her kids out of the car, and they went into the store. When the victim went to make a purchase at JoAnn Fabric, she realized she forgot her purse in the trunk, and went out to retrieve it, but the purse was gone, according to a police report. The woman immediately shut off her credit cards and canceled her cell phone service. No suspects were seen, and the case was closed.
