Utica to Hold City-Wide Clean Up Day

Residents can take part in Utica's clean up day Saturday, May 18.

Utica residents can take part in a "Residential City Wide Clean up Day" Saturday, May 18. Residents, both homeowners and renters, area asked to clean their yards or easements, according to councilwoman Faith Terenzi. She added in an email to Patch, "If they have already done theirs, see if you can help a neighbor or clean an area that has no houses on it! It takes all of us to keep this City beautiful!" Garbage bags will be given out at City Hall at 9 a.m. Saturday. If anyone has any questions, call Faith Terenzi at (586) 731-9589.

Drivers Reminded to 'Share The Road' With Bicycles in Shelby Township, Utica

May is National Bike Month in which the public is encouraged to keep cyclists' safety in mind.

With warm weather upon us, Macomb County drivers are encouraged to keep biker safety in mind. May is National Bike Month and this week is Bike to Work Week. Although the county claims paths for cyclists and runners, including the extensive Macomb Orchard Trail, bikers' rights are also crucial alongside roads. To promote awareness, the Michigan Department of Transportation shared YouTube videos, which are attached, on the subject.  Where do you bike in Shelby and Utica? Downtown Utica Restaurant to Get New Name

The Cass Bar and Grill in downtown Utica is now known as Hogs Hollow Smokehouse.

The Cass Bar and Grill is undergoing a name change to better represent the restaurant, and one of its signature items, the owner states.  The family-friendly restaurant serves freshly made southern-influenced foods, including ribs, chicken and brisket which are smoked daily. "The name Cass Bar and Grill no longer describes what we are all about. For this reason we now will be known as Hogs Hollow Smokehouse," John Sattmann, owner of Hogs Hollow Smokehouse said in a release.  The name Hogs Hollow comes from the original settlers to the region in 1829, and to show that support for the area, Sattmann buys Michigan-made products including serving local beers on tap and noodles used in the smokehouse mac and cheese. Shelby, Utica Coaches Among 15 Inducted to Macomb County Coaches Hall of Fame

The coaches represent schools from across the county, including those in Shelby Township and Utica.

The Macomb County Coaches Hall of Fame added 14 members Thursday night during a ceremony in Sterling Heights. Coaches from schools in Shelby Township and Utica were among those honored, according to The Macomb Daily. They are: Edmond Carleton (Cousino); Joyce Christmann (L’Anse Creuse); Bob Giles (Mount Clemens); Bobby Hill (Stevenson); Matt Joseph (Utica Ford, East Detroit); Bob Lefkowitz (L’Anse Creuse); Ann Marie Michol (De La Salle, Regina); Joe Michol (De La Salle, Utica); Jim Plutschuck (Utica, Roseville Sacred Heart); Brad Robinson (Warren Woods-Tower, Fraser); Steve Vercammen (Roseville, De La Salle) and Michael Giannone (Dakota). Heavy Rains Lead to Higher Clinton River in Utica

Recent heavy rains caused the Clinton River to rise to edge of the banks in Utica.

The recent heavy rains has led to the Clinton River to swell and flood low-lying areas in Clinton River Heritage Park in Utica.
