Shelby Asked to Ante Up $800,000 to Widen Hayes Road from 21 to 23 Mile

The project, due to begin in June, is expected to cost $8.8 million total.

The long-awaited widening of Hayes Road from 21 to 23 Mile is scheduled to start in June, but before work can begin, Shelby Township must give final approval for the project and commit to its portion of the overall cost. Although the project is expected to cost $8.8 million total, Shelby Township's tab is only $800,000. This is largely thanks to the project's selection as part of the Federal Aid Committee's Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP). Of the $8.8 million cost, federal monies are due to cover $5.6 million, with the remaining $3.2 million shared by Macomb County (50 percent), Shelby Township (25 percent) and Macomb Township (25 percent). In addition to granting final approval of the project, the Shelby Township board of trustees …

Matt, just to set the record straight the total amount for the 8 year period is actually $1.3M -- I overstated the total by $100k, sorry. The yearly amounts vary and are much greater than the "120,000 a year" figure that you provided: 2013 - $125,000 2014 - $125,000 2015 - $125,000 2016 - $145,000 2017 - $165,000 2018 - $185,000 2019 - $205,000 2020 - $225,000 These figures were obtained from the…   more ›

Reconstruction of Auburn Road to Kick Off County's 2013 Road Projects

The Macomb County Department of Roads has scheduled the $2.7 million reconstruction project to start in February 2013.

Shelby Township's westernmost section of Auburn Road will be one of the first county roads to undergo construction as orange barrel season 2013 gets underway next month. The Macomb County Department of Roads has scheduled more than $38 million in road projects this year, with the $2.7 million reconstruction of Auburn Road between Dequindre and Ryan leading the way. The reconstruction is due to start in February and wrap up by July, at which point three additional projects will already be in progress in the township. Starting in June, and to the tune of $8.6 million, construction crews will begin widening Hayes Road to five lanes between 21 and 23 mile roads. Luckily for Shelby Township taxpayers, the township will cover only a fraction of …
