Te Macomb County Prosecutor has decided not to charge anyone involved in a fight outside of a Shelby Township polling location on Aug. 7.
The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office has decided not to purse criminal charges against anyone involved in a scuffle outside of a polling location in Shelby Township on Aug. 7, during the primary elections. “They can go after each other civilly, but the criminal part is complete and prosecutor has made his decision,” said Shelby Township Police Chief Roland Woelkers. The Shelby Township Police Department had requested a warrant against resident Matt Guarnieri for battery and assault, as well as trespassing warrants against current Shelby Township Trustee Lisa Manzella, her husband Joe, and Jean Leman, who was campaigning on behalf of her husband, Bob Leman, for supervisor. The altercation broke out just before noon after Jean Leman, who …

Tempers flared as a protester flashed signs at a Shelby Township Board of Trustee during a heated discussion about an ordinance amendment.
After several failed attempts to appoint a temporary clerk, a lengthy discussion with residents and a short adjournment because of a protester during Tuesday’s meeting, the Shelby Township Board of Trustees voted to begin the process of amending an ordinance that states the board must have a unanimous vote to fill a board vacancy. Trustee Lisa Manzella was absent from the 4-0 vote after she exited the board room during the five-minute adjournment. By approving the motion Tuesday, the board agreed to publish the amendment change in local newspapers and take a final vote during a special Jan. 31 meeting. If passed, the ordinance, which states the board must have a majority rather than a unanimous vote to fill a vacancy, would go into effect …

A Shelby Township resident who is entangled in a defamatory lawsuit with Trustee Lisa Manzella claims FOIA documents he requested were leaked to her before he was able to review them.
The Shelby Township Board of Trustees denied resident Michael Ward’s request to appeal a $21 charge for a Freedom of Information Act request. Ward accused Clerk Terri Kowal of sharing the information in the documents with Trustee Lisa Manzella before handing the documents over to him. The documents in question regarded Manzella, who is embattled in a defamation lawsuit with Ward, after he alleged during a 2010 recall petition that Manzella was drinking and driving when she was involved in a single car crash in 2005, but was not cited because of politics. Ward said he realized the information had been shared with Manzella and handed over to her attorney to be used in a deposition that had taken place the day before. “We have a double set of…

The deadline to submit signatures for the recall effort against Shelby Township Clerk Terri Kowal has passed, but five board members remain subjects of active recall efforts.
A recall attempt targeting Shelby Township Clerk Terri Kowal has failed. The deadline for the submission of voter signatures, which would have prompted a special recall election against the 21-year official, was Feb. 23. The process against Kowal began in August 2010 when Joy Sebastian filed a recall petition with the Macomb County Elections Committee. The petition claimed nepotism for a Feb. 2010 vote Kowal made to approve a promotion for her daughter, Amy Drake, to become the township’s senior coordinator. Later, Kowal told Patch that it's against the law not to vote, unless she had recused herself, which she suggested to the board before the vote. Kowal said none of the board members thought it was necessary. The Macomb County Elections…

The video clearly shows Matt getting asaulted on his property by all three (Manzella and Leman). Its clear as day! The investigating officer must of been a friend of Leman and/or Manzella. The investigating officer took witness accounts from friends of Manzella / Leman and included them in his report. This resulted in a warrant against Matt based on lies. The witnesses claimed that Matt assaulted…   more ›
