The Shelby Township board has unanimously approved two cost-share projects to widen Van Dyke from 25 Mile to 26 Mile and improve the pedestrian and bike crossing at Dequindre Road between 23 Mile and 24 Mile.

Shelby Township has committed to invest another half a million dollars in area infrastructure this year following board approval of two projects to improve Van Dyke and Dequindre. On Tuesday, the township board unanimously approved cost-share agreements for widening Van Dyke from 25 Mile to 26 Mile and improving the pedestrian and bike crossing at Dequindre Road between 23 Mile and 24 Mile. Mark your calendars, motorists. The orange barrels are scheduled to go up Feb. 4 on Auburn Road between Dequindre and Ryan. Shelby Township Planning Director Glenn Wynn said the reconstruction will include a new road surface, left turn lanes and storm water drainage. Work is expected to be completed by mid-July. Shelby Township's westernmost section of Auburn Road will be one of the first county roads to undergo construction as orange barrel season 2013 gets underway next month. The Macomb County Department of Roads has scheduled more than $38 million in road projects this year, with the $2.7 million reconstruction of Auburn Road between Dequindre and Ryan leading the way. The reconstruction is due to start in February and wrap up by July, at which point three additional projects will already be in progress in the township. County Unveils 2013 Plans Van Dyke and Hayes Construction

The Macomb County Department of Roads has announced a new construction project on Hayes Road between 21 and 23 Mile Road to begin in June 2013.

While most construction is wrapping up for winter, county officials announced Monday major road projects for 2013, including the widening of Hayes Road between 21 and 23 Mile Road and the widening of Van Dyke north of 25 Mile. Come June 2013, residents in Shelby Township and Macomb are going to want to seek alternate routes as construction on Hayes Road between 21 Mile Road and 23 Mile Road kicks off. The Macomb County Department of Roads announced Tuesday that Federal funds were allocated for Hayes Road, and will cover 80 percent of construction cost. The 20 percent match as well as engineering and right of way purchases is going to be shared equally between the Macomb County Department of Roads, Shelby Township and Macomb Township, which…

Heat Is on the Streets as Construction Warms Up

Road construction still hobbles motorists across metropolitan Detroit.

With temperatures heating up, motorists have even more headaches to worry about while on the roads this week. Work was scheduled to start Monday on the Parkdale Road bridge over Stoney Creek. The road will be closed at the bridge, which is between Letica and Dequindre; through traffic will not be allowed. The road is expected to reopen Sept. 1. “We recognize that the closure of Parkdale Road will be an inconvenience for area residents and businesses,” said Eric Wilson, chairman of the Road Commission for Oakland County. “However, this bridge is in need of replacement, and there is no way to replace a bridge without closing the road." The suggested detour route is Dequindre Road to Avon Road to Rochester Road to Romeo Road and vice versa. …
