Within the Township borders, more than 73,000 Shelby Township residents enjoy access to championship public golf courses and more than 1,200 acres of first-class public parks, with hundreds of miles of hiking and biking trails and access to the Clinton River, which connects the community to recreation opportunities throughout southeast Michigan. Shelby Township’s appreciation for and abundance of green spaces goes further than its parks, though.

The Township’s residential neighborhoods are some of the most desirable in Macomb County, and their well-manicured, spacious lots and yards contribute to the Township’s place among the highest median home values in Macomb County. Local public schools operated by the Utica Community Schools district are among the top in the region, with 11 sites within the borders of Shelby Township. UCS students across all grade levels regularly perform at or near the top of Macomb County in standardized testing and college readiness, and benefit from specialized programs through institutions like the Utica Center for Science and Industry, which focuses on engineering and technology, or the Utica International Academy, which is home to the top public curriculum in all of Macomb County.

“I can think of no place better to settle down and establish a family than Shelby Township,” Township Supervisor Rick Stathakis said. “Whether it’s our beautiful parks and recreation amenities, our first-class public education options or an amazing community of neighbors and neighborhoods, it is easy to call Shelby Township home knowing that your family can grow and prosper here.”

With a working partnership between local government and business, Shelby Township is an integral part of the growth of the metro Detroit and Michigan economy. Through initiatives such as tax incentives and constantly improving and expanding Township infrastructure, the Township’s Board of Trustees has cemented relationships with some of the top industrial firms in the nation including: Fori Automation; Dan’s Excavating; Century Plastics; Florence Cement; U.S. Farathane; General Dynamics; Models and Tools; Smith Brothers Tools; Eagle Manufacturing; Plastic Trends; KUKA Robotics; Avon Gear; Lube Power.

And whether it is a new company or an established firm looking to expand, Shelby Township offers personalized services to meet industry demands in the most cost-effective means possible. New businesses work with Township staff to help with permitting processes, workforce screening and training programs to ensure every business has the best possible start when taking root in Shelby Township.

“The conservative majority of our Board of Trustees has long held the opinion that while government cannot create jobs, it most definitely can create an environment that promotes job growth,” Stathakis said. “This is why we have worked diligently with township staff in the Planning, Building and Assessing departments to ensure that new and expanding businesses have all the tools they need to thrive and create a more vibrant Shelby Township.”
