Pastor Jon Trinklein again leads Shelby Township’s National Day of Prayer

Pastor Jon Trinklein will lead Shelby Township in celebrating the National Day of Prayer May 2 at Cherry Creek Banquet Center, 52000 Cherry Creek Drive.

Pastor Jon Trinklein from Shepherd’s Gate Lutheran Church in Shelby Township will lead the Township in celebrating the National Day of Prayer May 2 at Cherry Creek Banquet Center, 52000 Cherry Creek Drive.

This is the fourth consecutive year Trinklein has brought the community together in observance of the National Day of Prayer, which dates back to 1775 when the Continental Congress issued a proclamation calling for an annual day of prayer to be set aside.

“The need for prayer to lead our governments is a tradition older than the country itself,” Shelby Township Supervisor Rick Stathakis said. “And, with issues like abortion and war on our political landscape, today that need is greater than ever.”

The theme of this year’s nationwide observance is “Pray for America,” and it focuses on the need to pray for God’s guidance for the United States of America.

“Something everyone can do for America is to pray, and the National Day of Prayer gives the opportunity to gather together and ask for God’s help and blessing for our nation,” Trinklein said. “It’s a prayer breakfast and an expression of our trust and faith in the Lord.”

The program starts with a free continental breakfast at 6:45 a.m. and runs until 8 a.m.

“It’s free, and no reservations are needed,” Trinklein said. “Our best problem would be if there are too many people, and that would be a delight. A lot of us would be glad not to eat anything so others could.”

The prayer service starts with a confession led by Trinklein, a speech from Pastor Mick Veatch of Stoney Creek Community Church, and prayers centered on family, government, church, business, and education led by Police Chaplain Dave Mansfield, Father Frank Kolaj of St. Paul’s Albanian Catholic Church, Pastor Jim Porter of St. Thomas Presbyterian, Sharon V. Ranke from Stoney Creek Recovery and Pastor Andy Timm of Macomb Christian Church before closing with a final blessing from Timm.
